Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Trademark Paralegal 2 position which will be located in either our San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Sacramento, or Portland office.

Under the direct supervision of attorneys or senior paralegals, this position supports the delivery of quality legal services to clients by performing technical and clerical tasks that require accuracy, strong attention to detail, organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and computer proficiency.

The Trademark Paralegal will assist attorneys and other paralegals across all offices in all aspects of trademark prosecution. Position may require continuing legal education due to changes to U.S. and foreign trademark procedures. Specific duties may include:

• Prepare, file, prosecute and monitor all US trademarks.
• Prepare, file, prosecute and monitor trademark applications worldwide.
• Extensive correspondence with foreign associates.
• Understanding of docketing procedures.
• Administer daily docket clearing.
• Monitor and track all due dates daily.
• Daily review of trademark mail.
• Distribute mail to the responsible attorney for actions.
• Conduct or assist in conducting legal research.
• Find relevant cases, law review articles and statutes.
• Prepare memoranda analyzing research results.

• Bachelor’s degree is required, and a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved training program is preferable but not required.
• At least four years of Orrick-equivalent paralegal experience as a trademark paralegal.
• Significant substantive working knowledge of USPTO and Madrid Protocol and foreign filing requirements; considerable experience in foreign and domestic trademark prosecution and maintenance.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, docketing systems and/or other automated control databases, (LEXIS, Westlaw,) and database retrieval systems.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to understand and summarize case-related documents.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• May be required to be licensed as Notary Public in the appropriate jurisdiction

California Requirements: In the California offices, paralegals must meet the qualifications, including compliance with the continuing education requirements, as set forth in the California Business and Professions Code, Section 6450 et seq. Paralegals must also be compliant with California Business & Professions Code Sections 6450(c)(3) or 6450(c)(4) relating to an Attorney Attestation.
